Ingredients

  • 60 g (2 oz) rolled oats
  • 2 tbsp mixed nuts and seeds, roughly chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or 30 g (1 oz) butter
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • a pinch of salt
  • 2 apples, cored and chopped
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp water
  • natural yoghurt, to serve

Steps

  1. Put the oats, nuts and seeds, oil and a pinch of salt in the pan over medium heat. Toast for 4–5 minutes, stirring often, until golden.
  2. Take the pan off the heat, stir in 1 tbsp of the honey and tip the crumble onto a plate to cool and crisp.
  3. Wipe the pan with kitchen paper. Add the apples, cinnamon, the rest of the honey and the water.
  4. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 6–8 minutes, stirring once or twice, until the apples are soft.
  5. Scatter the crumble over the apples and serve warm, straight from the pan, with a spoonful of yoghurt.

Swaps & variations

  • Pears, plums or a mix of apple and berries all work.
  • Stir 1 tbsp peanut butter into the warm crumble for a nuttier topping.
  • Toast a double batch of the crumble and keep it in a sealed container for up to a week.
